ALZHEIMER IN MURCIA REGION

In the year 2015, it is predicted that around 16.000 people in the region will suffer the Alzheimer disease.
Alzheimer is a neurodegenerative disease. Frequently, an organic brain damage appears in people after reaching the age of 65 years. It causes changes in behaviour and personality, with a progressive loss of memory, verbal capacity and mobility...
The Alzheimer disease will be, in the next few years, one of the most extended illnesses in our environment, chiefly because of the increasing life expectancy of the citizens. Today, it is the forth cause-of-death within industrial countries.
The disease is considered familiar, because the life of everyone who is close to the patient will be affected. For this reason, it will be necessary to create an organisation and a planning that leads to a common and joint collaboration that can be offered to the citizens and that the patient of Alzheimer will need in short-term.
The first step to take in order to attend the patient well and provide him with the best possible quality of life is to gain knowledge about this disease and to obtain information about the evolution of the illness.

ALZHEIMUR FOUNDATION: OBJECTIVES AND PATRONS
Murcia city has taken an active political role in the fight against Alzheimer. This is reflected in a conscientious exercise of social-sanitary planning. In the month of April 2006, the Regional Government, Murcia Town Hall and CajaMurcia Foundation initiated AlzheimUr Foundation.
The aim of AlzheimUr Foundation is to take comprehensive measures in the fight against Alzheimer disease focusing on three interventions: Research, Training, and Patient Care.
The Foundation was born out of the vocation of demanding high quality standards in all its proceedings. An indication of this commitment is a signed agreement with Reina Sofía Foundation that instigates, among other things, an exchange of knowledge and its dissemination so it can benefit rapidly to improve the quality of the service for Alzheimer patients.
